NASIK: Nasik witnessed a slightly quieter Diwali this year as compared to last year, reports Sumita Sarkar.
The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) had installed noise-monitoring machines at Central Bus Stand (CBS), Panchavati, Dahipool, CIDCO and Bytco Point – the five locations that had recorded maximum noise during last Diwali. In most cases, the noise recorded was a few decibels less than last year.
CBS recorded the highest noise of 87.7 decibels during the night time. Other noisy areas were Bytco Point and CIDCO. In fact, Bytco Point recorded the highest decibels of all – 88.5 – during the day.
MPCB officials attributed the reduction in the noise pollution to residents’ awareness about the harmful effects triggered by the bursting of crackers.
