NASIK: As part of smart city programmes, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has invited opinions and suggestions on retrofitting of Old Nashik and Panchavati areas from the citizens.
Retrofitting is one of the strategic components of area-based developments in the smart cities project. Retrofitting will introduce planning in an existing built-up area to make the existing area more efficient and liveable. An area of more than 500 acres will be identified for retrofitting with the help of citizens. With respect to this, the civic administration has asked the citizens to give their opinions at the earliest for the internal and external development of these two locations.
“We have asked the citizens to give their opinions on solutions for traffic, how pedestrians can walk comfortably and how hawkers occupying the streets can be managed. We also asked them that if we give them proper facilities will they be ready to pay more taxes than they are doing at present. They are to submit their opinions at the earliest,” said an NMC official.
He added that in retrofitting the existing structures will remain intact and the service levels for providing infrastructure will be implemented. Retrofitting takes shorter time and can be replicated in some other part of the city.
The official said that the report of the activities conducted and the opinions and suggestions of the citizens are to be submitted to the government by November-end.
“The opinions of citizens and revenue will be a major factor in deciding about the implementation of the smart city project in Nashik,” said the official.
