NASIK: Three more farmers committed suicide in Nashik district over the last two days. Two of them were from drought-hit Baglan taluka, while the third was from Niphad taluka. The number of farmers that have committed suicide in the region this year is now more than 70.
Ramdas Kashiram Devre (48) Bundhate, from Baglan, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his house on Monday afternoon. The unseasonal rains on Saturday and Sunday had wiped away his crop and could have been the reason why he committed suicide. He is survived by his wife and son.
Bhagwan Dive (32) a resident of Dawach Wadi, Niphad taluka, hung himself at the primary school of his village on Monday. He did not own a farm but his mother does, said his relatives. Dive is survived by his wife and three daughters.
Shamkant Thakre (29) of Rahud village in Baglan hung himself from a tree near his house on Tuesday. He owned a farm and poultry farm but both were doing badly, his family members said.
Reports on the farmers will be presented before a committee headed by the collector which will look into the matter.
