Water release to Jayakwadi dam begins

NASIK: The water resources department (WRD) here finally started releasing water from Gangapur dam to Jayakwadi reservoir on Monday.

The Godavari Marathwada Irrigation Development Corporation (GMIDC) had ordered the release of 12.84 TMC water from the dams in Nashik and Ahmednagar district under the equitable water distribution system. The WRD has to release 1.36 TMC water from the Gangapur dam complex and 3.24 TMC from Darna dam complex. The remaining water will be released from Bhandardara and Mula dams in Ahmednagar district.

Protesters had gathered at the site to agitate against the release the water. Water will be released for the next four days, said RS Shinde, executive engineer, Nashik irrigation division.
