Mahapex 2016, a state-level philatelic exhibition for Maharashtra and Goa, will be held here from January 16 to 18.
The exhibition will include activities such as workshop and seminar on philately for students to be conducted by senior philatelists, besides quiz, painting and elocution competitions.
Special commemorative covers and a souvenir on Mahapex 2016 would also be released during the occasion. The souvenir would contain literature on philately and illustrations on history of stamps and the stamps and cancellations on the themes pertaining to Maharashtra and Goa.
Officials at the Nashik divisional post office said stamp exhibitions are one of the most effective ways to build up interest in philately as they provide a forum for collectors to display their collection for being judged and to attract the young to this fascinating pursuit.
“The exhibition was organised to create awareness about philately. There are more than 10 crore stamp collectors in the world, out of which about 50 lakh are in India. Postage stamps are often called paper ambassadors, since they portray the heritage, habitat, history, arts, literature and culture of the country of issue,” the officials said.
The officials said the prospectus containing the rules for the exhibition was and the entry forms are available on the websites of the Maharashtra Post and India Post. Those who want to participate in the exhibition and display their collection should send in their entry forms by December 15.
